Election of Non-permanent Members of the Security Council was held by the General Assembly; Dr. Han meets with Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; meeting with Mrs. Ogata, former UNHCR

The following five States were elected as members of the Security Council for a two-year term beginning on 1 January 2002: Bulgaria, Cameroon, Guinea, Mexico and the Syrian Arab Republic. Dr. Han informed delegates that H. E. Mr. Hubert Wurth, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the United Nations, would coordinate the informal consultations on the draft resolution to be submitted under agenda item 20 (Strengthening of the coordination of humanitarian and disaster relief assistance of the United Nations, including special economic assistance).

Dr. Han met with four Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in the afternoon and exchanged views with them on the current international situation.

Dr. Han met with Mrs. Ogata, former UN High Commissioner for Refugees. They discussed the status of refugees in Afghanistan.
