Assembly Plenary Meeting continued today on Measures to eliminate international
terrorism; President met with Foreign Minister of Ireland, Mr. Brian Cowen;
met with Chairman of Regional Groups General Assembly Plenary meeting continued today with President presiding, statements were made by the representatives of Guatemala, Yemen, the Republic of Korea and the Sudan; H. E. Mr. Brian Cowen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland; H. E. Mrs. Lila Ratisfandrihamanana, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Madagascar; and by the representatives of Malaysia, Iceland, Pakistan, Japan, Venezuela, Yugoslavia, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya and Colombia. The Permanent Observer of Palestine also made a statement. Dr. Han met with Foreign Minister of Ireland, Mr. Brian Cowen at 11:30 am and exchanged their views on the prospects of discussion in the United Nations on terrorism and other issues Luncheon was followed with Mr. Rick Smith who is the President of Newsweek. General Assembly afternoon meeting continued in the afternoon. Statements were made by the representative of Bhutan, Cyprus and Uruguay; H. E. Dr. Javad Zarif, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran; by the representative of Lesotho, Austrailia, Germany and Sri Lanka; H. E. Mr. Petko Draganov, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bulgarial; H. E. Mr. Lauro Baja Jr., Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Philippines; and by the representatives of Romania, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Oman, Djibouti and Gabon. In the afternoon, National Public Radio interviewed Dr. Han. Dr. Han met with the Chairmen of the Regional Groups late in the afternoon. In the meeting, Dr. Han expressed his wish to the Group Chairs that they reach a consensus on a resolution, in order to show that the United Nations, as a whole, is united in its stance towards international terrorism, and to support the work being made to revitalize and strengthen the General Assembly. Also Dr. Han informed Group Chairs that the dates for the General Debate have been finalized an it would take place over a 7-day period, from November 10th to 16th (including Sat., 10th and Sun., 11th). |
