26 June 2002

Dr. Han today opened an exhibit of Indian children's drawings at the entrance hall of the UN House Prague. Dr. Han then met with the heads of the UN agencies located in Prague. They discussed various issues such as Security Council reform, preparations of the World Summit on Sustainable Development, recent success stories such as East Timor, Sierra Leone and UN projects in the Czech Republic.

Dr. Han met with Foreign Minister Jan Kavan and had joint press conference. Dr. Han spoke about his Presidency of the 56th General Assembly, which he described as extraordinarily challenging, in particular due to the September's terrorist attacks. Dr. Han said his focus as GA President includes Assembly's efficiency and revitalisation, implementation of the Millennium goals, the issues of Africa and conflict resolution.

Dr. Han is winding up a visit to three countries in Europe whereupon he will return to the Republic of Korea. Dr. Han also has a message for the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, which is today. Among other things, the message calls upon all Member States and the international community to reaffirm their commitment to implement the action programmes and measures contained in the Declaration of the Special Session on HIV/AIDS and to cooperate with UNAIDS and UNDCP to eliminate illicit drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.
