20 June 2002

Today, Dr. Hna had an Audience with His Holiness and met with His Eminence Cardinal Sodano, the Secretary of State of Holy See.

Then, Dr. Han left Rome for Vienna.

Today was World Refugee Day. In his message on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, Dr. Han said

" I should like to emphasize that, as enshrined in the preamble of the Charter of the United Nations, the human rights of
all men, women and children, refugees and other persons of concern, should be fully respected. The Universal
Declaration of Human Rights recognizes that everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from
persecution. Primary responsibility for protecting and assisting refugees lies with states, particularly the countries of
asylum to which refugees flee. I urge all Member States of the United Nations and UN agencies to foster a culture of
protection for refugees and other persons of concern through the application of international humanitarian law."
