President presided over the opening of the second day of the special session on children today
9 May 2002

Yesterday, on the first day of the special session on children, the Assembly heard statements by 24 heads of state or government, by 12 Vice-Presidents, Deputy Prime Ministers or Crown Princes, by 18 representatives at the ministerial level and by 3 heads of delegation.

This morning, the meeting started out with the President of Zambia who is followed by another 33 speakers, including the Director-General of WHO and the Executive Director of WFP. In the afternoon, there are again 32 speakers plus the Director-General of ILO and the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

General Assembly President Han Seung-soo presided over the opening of the second day of the special session this morning.

In the late afternoon, he met with the Minister of Social Affairs of Myanmar, then with the President of Bosnia-Herzegovina, H. E. Mr. Beriz Belkic.

Dr. Han met with the State Councillor of the People's Republic of China, Madame Wu Yi.

In the evening, Dr. Han and Mrs. Han attended the Leadership Event at the United Nations Pavilion North Lawn.

Later in the evening, Dr. Han attended the official UNICEF reception co-hosted by Mr. Bill Gates at the United Nations Visitors' Lobby.
