Today, the 40th and the 41st plenary meeting continued one in the morning and another in the afternoon. United Nations Year of Dialogue among Civilizations (a) Report of the Secretary-General (A/56/523) and (b) Draft resolution (A/56/L.3) were discussed during the meeting.

In the early afternoon, the occasion of presentation of certificates to three journalists who have participated a training programme funded by UNCA's Dag Hammarskjold Memorial Fund took place. Dr. Han congratulated the three outstanding journalists who were this year's recipients of the Dag Hammarksjold Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Han said, "Freedom of the press is a fundamental political right and one of the foundations of a vibrant democracy. But this right depends for its exercise on the courage, ability, and integrity of dedicated journalists such as those we hour today."

Later in the afternoon, Dr. Han met with the new Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, H. E. Mr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury and had a discussion on future direction of a debate in the General Assembly.
