Assembly Plenary Meeting continues today with President presiding General Assembly Plenary meeting continues today with Dr. Han presiding. Speakers included the representatives from Nauru (on behalf of the Pacific Islands Forum), Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Haiti, Botswana, Latvia, Eritrea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Denmark, Bahrain, Sierra Leone, Estonia, Turkmenistan, Benin, Thailand, Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Guinea-Bissau and Grenada, Greece, Antigua and Barbuda and Equatorial Guinea, the observer of Switzerland, the observer for the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the observer for the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and Dr. Han. In Dr. Han’s closing statement at the General Assembly Plenary Meeting on “Measures to eliminate terrorism”, Dr. Han expressed the gratitude toward mayor Mr. Rudolph Giuliani for our host city’s speedy recovery. He said, “UN should play a key role in intensifying international efforts to eliminate such terrorism.” And requested the 6th committee to expedite its work and submit its report to General Assembly as early as possible, preferably by 15 November 2001. Dr. Han conclude by saying that our week-long deliberation was indispensable in the sense that it reaffirmed the central role of the UN in general and that of the General Assembly in particular as the chief deliberative and policy-making body in dealing with global and high-profile issues such as international terrorism. He also showed his hope that the UN and the international community would take whatever further measures are necessary to fight international terrorism, building on the deliberations we have had for the last five days. Dr. Han had luncheon with Foreign Minister of Mexico, H. E. Mr. Jorge Castaneda. There was briefing
