President presides over the plenary meeting of the High-level dialogue and meets with H. E. Mr. Ignor Ivanov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

Dr. Han presided over the plenary meeting on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership.  In his opening remarks, Dr. Han said that under the overarching theme of globalization, two crucial subthemes are on the table. The first covers two issues of importance, that is the integration of developing countries into the world economy and generating financial resources. The second subtheme is the need to bridge the digital divide.

He also stressed the significance of the International Conference on Financing for Development, which would take place in March of next year in Mexico and further mentioned that Information and communication technologies (ICT) could be a powerful tool in the economic and social development of countries. In his view, it is crucial for the General Assembly to continue to explore ways of interacting with the multi-stakeholders who are instrumental in turning policy proposals into practical reality.

Dr. Han hosted a luncheon for Vice Presidents of the General Assembly. They discussed the possible future date for the General Debate of the General Assembly which had been rescheduled.

Dr. Han had a meeting with H. E. Mr. Igor Ivanov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, with whom he discussed various issues including the recent terrorist attacks on the US.
