President of General
Assembly to visit Japan and China
The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Harri Holkeri, will travel to Japan
and China at the end of this month at the invitation of the Governments of those
two countries. As with his previous travel to Asia, this trip takes place under
the overall umbrella of the Millennium Summit follow up.
While in Japan from 1st to 6th April, Mr. Holkeri will meet with the Foreign
Minister Yohei Kono and other leading figures of the Government. He will visit
Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto.
Following his trip to Japan, Mr. Holkeri will visit China where, as the guest
of the Government of the People's Republic of China, he will meet with Premier
Zhu Rongji, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tang Jiaxuan, and other high-level
officials. During his stay in China, Mr. Holkeri will visit Beijing and Shanghai.
He will leave China on 12th April.
During his trip, the President of the General Assembly will be accompanied by
his Minister Counsellor for Legal and Political Issues, Ms. Raili Lahnalampi.
