The President of the General Assembly learned today with great sorrow about
the untimely death on 8 December of the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, H.E. Mr. Ionatana
Ionatana.
The President met Prime Minister Ionatana when he addressed the General Assembly
on 5th September 2000 on the occasion of Tuvalu being admitted as the 189th
Member State of the United Nations.
On behalf of the General Assembly, the President expresses his condolences to
the government and people of Tuvalu and to the bereaved family.
