The President today spoke at the Offical Opening Session
of the World Conference against Racism. In his speech Mr.
Holkeri noted that fight against racism and racial discrimination
has been at the forefront of the United Nations since its
creation. He added that he hopes theWorld Conference against
Racsim will be another big step forward in that fight. The

The President today met with the President of Latvia, H.E.
Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga. Among issues discussed during their
meeting were theMillennium Summit follow-up process, reform
of the Security Council and the Brahimi Report.
The President attended a luncheon for Heads of State attending
the World Conference, hosted by the President of South Afrika,
H.E. Mr. Thabo Mbeki.
Later in the day the President met with the Secretary-General
of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan.
Mr. Holkeri also attended a reception in connection with
the World Conference, hosted by the President of South Africa,
H.E. Mr. Thabo Mbeki.
