The General Assembly today continued discussing the Question
of Palestine. In the afternoon, the Assembly began its discussion
on the situation in the Middle East.
The President met with the Permanent Representative of Indonesia,
H. E. Ambassador Dr. Makarim Wibisono. The discussion dealt
with the issue of which country will host the Rio + 10 Conference,
as well as other relevant matters. The President thanked the
Ambassador and his Government for the active role they have
played in the matter of Rio+10 Conference and he also thanked
Ambassador Wibisono for participating in the forth-coming
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) event of the
Plenary to be held on 13 December. The forth-coming visit
of Ambassador Wibisono to Finland, to participate in an ICT/Finland-Baltic
states seminar was also discussed.
The President attended a reception hosted by the Conference
of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Status with
the United Nations in Honor of Dr. Nafis Sadik and Ms. Thoraya
Obaid, retiring and in-coming Executive Directors of the United
Nations Population Fund.
The President also attended a reception on the occasion of
the National Day of Romania hosted by the Permanent Representative
of Romania, H.E. Mr. Sorin Dumitru Ducaru.
Later in the day President was the guest of honor in a dinner,
hosted by the Permanent Representative of Brazil, H.E. Mr.
Gelson Fonseca, Jr.
