The upcoming General Assembly special session on HABITAT
was in the focus during the President's meeting with Ms. Anna
Tibaijuka, Executive Director of the United Nations Centre
for Human Settlements (HABITAT). Their discussion focused
on practical issues of the special session, which will take
place next week. Mr. Holkeri also thanked Ms. Tibaijuka for
her efforts on the preparations for the special session.
The Open-ended Working Group on the Causes of Conflict and
Promotion of Durable Peace and Sustainable Development in
Africa met today with Mr. Holkeri chairing. The working group
continued its discussion from yesterday on the topic of education.
After the meeting Mr. Holkeri was the guest of honor in a
luncheon, hosted by H.E. Mr. Shamshad Ahmad, Permanent Representative
of Pakistan, vice-chairman of the Working Group.
Mr. Holkeri met today with Ambassador Gabriel Valdes of Chile.
Their discussion focused on the upcoming special session on
HIV/AIDS.
