The President met with the Former President of South Africa,
Mr. Nelson Mandela. They discussed the situation in Africa
and the importance of effective follow up to the Millennium
Declaration in this respect. They also discussed the revitalization
of the work of the Africa Working Group, which the President
of the General Assembly chairs. A photograph of their meeting

The President hosted a lunch for the President of Economic
and Social Council (ECOSOC), Ambassador Makarim Wibisono.
The Director of the Division for ECOSOC Support and Coordination
also attended. The discussion dealt with, among other issues,
the possibilities of improving cooperation and understanding
between the United Nations and the Bretton Woods Institutions.
The President of the GA and the President of ECOSOC agreed
to join forces in pursuing this goal. Also, the outcome of
the high-level segment of the substantive session of ECOSOC
on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) was discussed,
and Mr. Khan provided a brief overview on the current status
of the ICT task-force.
The President also met the Special Representative of the World
Bank to the United Nations, Ms. Monique Garrety. The discussion
dwelled on the recent Annual Meeting of the Bretton Woods
Institutions in Prague. Also the role of Non-Governmental
Organizations in the United Nations and the Bretton Woods
Institutions was touched. The President informed the World
Bank Special Representative of his plans to visit Washington
during the autumn session of the General Assembly. A photograph
