Mr. Holkeri today presided over General Assembly meeting to reappoint Secretary-General Kofi Annan for a second five-year term, which will begin on 1 January, 2002. The decision was made by acclamation. In his statement after the decision President congratulated the Secretary-General and assured him of the continuing support of Member States to his leadership. After the election the President hosted a luncheon for the Under-Secretary-Generals.

The President met with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Switzerland. A Meeting between the President and Russian artist Ms. Alla Yusupova also took place today.
