The President chaired the open-ended informal consultations of the Plenary on the new agenda item "Follow-up to the outcome of the Millennium Summit". The discussion was based on a Non-Paper by the President. The full text of the Non-Paper is available on the "Statements and Messages" page.

The General Assembly continued its discussion on Oceans and the Law of the Sea.

The President received a copy of a petition signed by more than 12,000 United Nations staff requesting the Security Council to convene a special meeting to address safety and security problems faced by UN staff and associated personnel, especially when on mission. The President of the United Nations Staff Union, Ms. Mehri Madarshahi, presented the copy to the President. The photgraph of their meeting can be viewed on the "Photos" page.

The President hosted the second of his monthly working luncheons with the President of the Security Council. The current President of the Security Council, H.E. Mr. Martin Andjaba, attended along with the chairperson of the 4th Committee, H.E. Mr. Semakula Kiwanuka, the Chairperson of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping, H.E Mr. Arthur Mbanefo, the Chairperson of Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, H.E. Mr. C.S.M. Mselle and the Chairperson of the Security Council working group on the Brahimi Report, H.E. Ms. Patricia Durrant. The focus of the luncheon discussion was the importance of exchanging information and coordinating efforts during the consideration of the Brahimi Report in the Security Council and its working group as well as in the respective bodies of the General Assembly.

The President met with the Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Mr. Juan Somavia. The photograph of their meeting can be viewed on the "Photos" page. The discussion focused on the special way ILO works with various constituencies of civil society.

The President met with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Horst Kohler. Also attending the meeting were the co-chairs of the Financing for Development process, Ambassador Asda Jayanama of Thailand and Ambassador Jorgen Bojer of Denmark. The involvement of international financial institutions in the Financing for Development process was discussed.
