The President had a meeting with the September Chairs of the five Regional Groups. He brought to their attention the question of the remaining candidatures for the bureaus of the Main Committees. The President informed them of his plans concerning the dates of the closing of the 55th Session and opening of the 56th Session. The President stressed the importance of follow-up for the Millennium Summit and indicated that he would organize open-ended informal meetings to discuss the review process.

The President also met with the chairperson of the Sixth Committee, Prof. Mauro Politi, of Italy, and the Secretary of the Sixth Committee, Mr. Vaclav Mikulka, to discuss the main issues concerning the work of the Committee.

Mr. Holkeri had a meeting with Mr. Giandomenico Picco, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the UN Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations to be observed next year. They discussed the upcoming programme for the Year and the concept of diversity.
