The President today presided over a discussion devoted to
the Report of the Secretary-General on HIV/AIDS. In between
the informal discussions, the General Assembly met to adopt
a resolution concerning the participation of non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) in the General Assembly special session
on HIV/AIDS.
The President held his monthly meeting with the Chairmen of
the Regional Groups for the month of February. Permanent Representative
of Mali, H.E. Mr. Moctar Ouane, Permanent Representative of
Nepal, H.E. Mr. Murari Raj Sharma, Permanent Representative
of Albania, H.E Mr. Agim Nesho, Permanent Representative of
Costa Rica, H.E. Mr. Bernd Niehaus and Permanent Representative
of Austria, H.E. Mr. Gerhard Pfanzelter took part in this
meeting. Among issues discussed were the Africa Working Group,
reform of the Security Council, upcoming special session on
HIV/AIDS, Millennium Summit follow-up and the process of improving
the working methods of the General Assembly. President's notes

The President met with the Member of Parliament and Chairman
of the Defense Affairs Working Group of the Christian Democratic
Union of Germany, Mr. Paul Breuer, accompanied by a Delegation
of six Parliamentarians. The President briefed them on the
importance of the Millennium Summit and the ongoing follow-up
process to the Summit.
The President attended a luncheon hosted by the Permanent
Representative of Italy, H.E. Mr. Sergio Vento, to say goodbye
to the Legal Adviser, professor Mauro Politi, who is also
Chairman of the Sixth Committee.
Later on the day the President attended a reception hosted
by the Permanent Representative of Kuwait, H.E. Mr. Mohammed
Abulhasan, to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the Liberation
of the State of Kuwait and the Fortieth National Day.
