25 October 2000
The President and his Cabinet held their second monthly working
luncheon with the Chairpersons of the Main Committees who
reported on the progress of the work of each Committee. All
the Chairpersons mentioned that their work was progressing
on schedule and that follow-up to the Millennium Summit had
been incorporated into draft resolutions currently being adopted
by the Committees. There was also a discussion on how the
lengthy agenda of the General Assembly, now with more than
180 items on it, might be shortened and the need to limit
the number of reports requested of the Secretariat. The Chairman
of the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) reported
that the General Assembly discussed cooperation between the
United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation
in Europe.
The General Assembly adopted, without a vote, a resolution
on continuing cooperation between the United Nations and the
Asian-African Legal Consultative Committee. The General Assembly
also discussed a new global human order and the role United
Nations might play in promoting it.
The President met with the Foreign Minister of Austria, H.E.
Dr. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and the Permanent Representative
of Austria, H.E. Dr. Gerhard Pfanzelter. During their meeting
they discussed, among other issues, the President's trip to
Vienna on 6 November to address the Triennial Conference of
the Committee of Non-Governmental Organizations.
The President met with the Permanent Representatives of Mexico,
Argentina, Egypt, Italy, New Zealand, Pakistan, Republic of
Korea, Singapore, Spain and Turkey to discuss issues concerning
the Security Council reform.
