The President had a luncheon meeting with Mr. Zéphirin Diabré, Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Among the issues discussed were the President's recent visit to East Timor and Indonesia and the role of UNDP in the follow-up to the Millennium Summit.

Later in the day, the President met with the Permanent Representative of Sweden, H.E. Mr. Jean-Pierre Olov Schori. As of 1 January, Sweden has assumed the rotating Presidency of the European Union.
