The President today attended a Solemn meeting to commemorate
Africa Day, the Thirty-Eighth Anniversary of the Organization
of African Unity (OAU). In his statement the President stressed
that African development remains a key priority to the United
Nations and called for continuing co-operation with African
leaders and the OAU. The full text of his remarks is available

The President held a meeting with a Sub-Committee on the United
Nations of the German Federal Parliament's Committee on Foreign
Relations, with a wide range of UN-related issues discussed.
Later in the day Mr. Holkeri attended a concert by the Rachmaninov
Trio hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation
to the United Nations.
