Acting on the reports of the Fifth Committee, which deals
with Administrative and Budgetary Questions, the General Assembly
today adopted a new scale of assessments for the regular budget
of the United Nations for 2001-2003. Following extended consultations
of the Fifth Committee, the Assembly met to conclude its work
for the main part of the Millennium session. Action on all
drafts was taken without a vote.
The President gave an overview of the General Assembly's work
prior to its suspension saying that the Millennium Declaration
had established the character of the main session and also
its main challenge. He called the Declaration one of the most
important documents of recent time and added that succeeding
in achieving its targets would have an enormous global impact.
