20 December 2000
The General Assembly today adopted some 30 resolutions on
the recommendation of its Second Committee, which deals with
Economic and Financial issues.
Shortly after the Assembly had adopted a resolution concerning
the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their
natural resources, there was an incident in the General Assembly
Hall. Three young people, one woman and two men, created a
disturbance in the hall by yelling and holding two cloth banners
with the words "UN = anti-Semitism". The three people were
apprehended by UN Security and removed from the hall. The
Assembly then continued its meeting.
The President has sent a letter to the UN Chief of Security
asking how such an incident could happen and what measures
will be taken to ensure that something similar will not occur
again.
