The President met with the Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Turkey and Chair of the Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) Committee, Mr. Mehmet Bilman, and the Chief of the NGO section at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Ms. Hanifa who briefed the President on the work of the NGO-Committee. The importance of coordinating the guidelines for NGO participation in various events and conferences was emphasized during the discussion as a way to save time and resources. The President attended the opening of the exhibition titled "History of the United Nations in Posters" at the United Nations Headquarters. A photograph form the opening can be viewed on the "Photos" page.

The President attended a luncheon hosted by H.E. Mr. Joseph Reed in honor of Mr. David Rockefeller.

The President had a meeting with the H.E. Ms. June Yvonne Clarke, Permanent Representative of Barbados, to discuss the ongoing negotiations on the scale of assessments.

Later in the day Mr. Holkeri attended a Christmas "Glogg" Party, hosted by the Permanent Representative of Finland, H.E. Ms. Marjatta Rasi.
