General Assembly adopted a major treaty targeting organized
crime: the United Nations Convention against Transnational
Organized Crime, the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish
Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, and
the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea
and Air. The Convention will be open for signature at the
high-level political signing conference to be held in Palermo,
Italy, 12-15 December.
The President made some introductory remarks when the General
Assembly began its consideration of the GA Special Session
in 2001 for follow-up to the World Summit for Children, held

The President was the keynote speaker at the Forum of Small
States on the issue of the role of the President in the reform
and revitalization of the United Nations. The full text of

The President continued his series of visits to different
committees to follow their work by visiting the Sixth Committee.
The Committee was debating measures to eliminate international
terrorism.
During his meeting with the President, H.E. Mr. Janusz Stanczyk,
Ambassador of Poland, briefed him on their initiative for
a new agenda item on the International Day of Solidarity.
The President was interviewed by three journalists for "World
Chronicle", a United Nations television programme. The discussion
focused on the work of the current session of the General
Assembly.
