Mr. Holkeri today presided over a general debate on the Secretary-General's Report on conflict prevention. The President had earlier sent a letter to all Member States and Observers in connection with General Debate, the full text of the letter is available on Statements and Messages page. In the beginning of the meeting the President informed members of the Assembly of the death of H.E. Mr. Choudhury of Bangladesh, the President of the 41st session of the General Assembly. The President issued a statement in connection with Mr. Choudhury's demise. The full text of the statement is available on the Statements and Messages page.

The President met with the Head of the delegation of the European Commission, H.E. Mr. John B. Richardson, to discuss, inter alia, the revitalization of the General Assembly.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, H.E. Mrs. Ilinka Mitreva paid a courtesy call to the President.
