The General Assembly discussed the implementation of the United
Nations New Agenda for Development of Africa in the 1990s.
The General Assembly also, acting without a vote, adopted
resolutions on the global implications of the year 2000 (Y2K)
date conversion problem of computers and on cooperation between
the United Nations and the Economic Community of Central African
States.
The President made introductory remarks to the Ad Hoc Committee
of the Assembly for the announcement of voluntary contributions
to the programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees (UNHCR). In his remarks the President spoke about
the need for the High Commissioner's Office to undertake its

The President attended a lunch hosted by the Permanent Representative
of the Kingdom of Netherlands, H.E. Mr. Peter van Walsum,
in honor of the High Commissioner for Refugees, Mrs. Sadako
Ogata.
Later in the day the President was the guest of honor in a
dinner hosted by the Permanent Representative of the Republic
of Korea, H.E. Sun Joun-yung.
