The President met with Ambassador Richard Holbrooke of the
United States of America. During their meeting they discussed
the recent Security Council resolution on the situation in
the Middle East and the forthcoming Security Council elections.
The President met with the Ambassador of Uganda, Mr. Semakula
Kiwanuka, who briefed the President about the situation concerning
the African candidates for the Security Council elections.
The President also discussed the forthcoming Security Council
elections with Mr. Hans Corell Under-Secretary-General of
the Office of Legal Affairs and the Legal Counsel, and with
members of the General Assembly secretariat.
The President met with the Ambassador of Mozambique, Mr. Carlos
Dos Santos, in his capacity as the chair of the Preparatory
Committee of the United Nations Conference on the Illicit
Trade of Small Arms and Lights Weapons in all its Aspects.
Mr. Santos briefed the President about the stage of preparations
for the conference.
The President met with Ambassador Samuel Insanally of Guyana.The
President informed Mr. Insanally about his plans concerning
the Millenium Summit follow-up. Mr. Insanally briefed the
President about the initiative concerning the role of the
United Nations in promoting a new global human order, an item
on the General Assembly's agenda.
