The General Assembly concluded its discussion on the report
of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). A resolution
on this subject will be taken up on Friday, 10 November. The
General Assembly also considered the agenda items on cooperation
between the United Nations and the Organization of African
Unity (OAU) and with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Furthermore,
the General Assembly adopted a resolution expressing support
for the "Bethlehem 2000" project, a multifaceted commemorative
event scheduled to last from Christmas 1999 to Easter 2001.
The President met with the High Commissioner for Refugees,
Mrs. Sadako Ogata. A photograph of their meeting can be viewed
on the "Photos" page. The President thanked Mrs.
Ogata for her nearly 10 years of service as the head of the
UNHCR. The President was also briefed on the present situation
of the agency.
Later, the President attended a reception hosted by Quakers,
held in connection with the Non-Governmental Organizations
Hearings on Financing for Development.
