The Assembly met today, just a few days before its conclusion,
in plenary to adopt a number of resolutions which had still
been pending. Among the items considered was that on strengthening
the UN system and revitalization of the work of the General
Assembly, where the Assembly adopted a draft resolution submitted
by the President. The resolution is an important step towards
making the Assembly work more effectively and efficiently.
The President today hosted a luncheon for Ms. Louse Frechette,
Deputy Secretary-General. The discussion focused on the reform
of the Security Council, also issues relted to the World Conference
against Racism were touched upon.
Mr. Holkeri met with H.E. Mr. Alfonso Valdivieso, Permanent
Representative of Colombia, to discuss a range of issues,
including the work of the Security Council.
Later in the day the President was the guest of honour in
a reception, hosted by H.E. Ms. Marjatta Rasi, permanent Representative
of Finland, on the occasion of closing the 55th General Assembly.
