The Open-ended Working Group on Security Council reform began a new week-long session today with Mr. Holkeri presiding. The focus of the meetings this week is on the question of the expansion of the Council.

Mr. Holkeri met with H.E. Mr. Klaus Törnudd, Ambassador (ret.) and former Permanent Representative of Finland to the UN, to discuss his ongoing efforts to revitalize the General Assembly and bring the Security Council reform process forward.

H.E. Mr. Jean De Ruyt, new Permanent Representative of Belgium, paid a courtesy call to the President.
