The General Assembly today adopted the resolution on assistance
in mine action. The Assembly also approved the report of the
Credentials Committee, which recommended the acceptance of
the credentials of 28 countries.
On the recommendation of the Fifth Committee (Administrative
and Budgetary), the General Assembly today appointed new members
to several subsidiary bodies. Those included five members
of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary
Question (ACABQ), seven members of the Committee of Contributions,
one member of the Board of Auditors, three members of the
Investments Committee, three members of the United Nations
Administrative Tribunal and five members of the International
Civil Service Commission.
The President also made an announcement concerning the special
session on HIV/AIDS, scheduled to be held from the 25 to 27
June 2001. The President has appointed two co-facilitators,
Ambassador Penny Wensley of Australia and Ambassador Ibra
Ka of Senegal, to assist him in carrying out the preparatory
process.
The President met with the Permanent Representative of Nepal,
H.E. Mr. Murari Raj Sharma to discuss the follow-up to the
Millennium Summit.
Later in the day the President attended a reception hosted
by the Consul General of Finland, H.E. Mr. Jukka Leino, on
the occasion of the Independence Day of Finland.
