The President today met with H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General
of the United Nations. Among issues discussed were reform
of the General Assembly and consideration of the conflict
prevention report. Work of the Africa Working Group and the
reform of the Security Council were also touched upon during
their meeting.
The General Assembly today concluded its discussion on Secretary-General's
report on prevention of armed conflict. The Assembly then
adopted the agreed text of the draft resolution. Formal adoption
of the resolution will take place on 7 September. The General
Assembly also made decision on Strengthening the United Nations
system and Revitalization of the work of the General Assembly.

The President hosted a lunch for H.E. Mr. Guillermo Fernandez
de Soto, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, H.E. Mr.
Alfonso Valdivieso, Permanent Representative of Colombia and
H.E. Mr. Andrés Franco, deputy Permanent Representative
of Colombia. The discussion focused on the consideration of
Secretary-General's report on prevention of armed conflict
and on the forthcoming work programme if the Security Council.
