- Opening of the session
The session will be opened by the Chairman of the Committee on Information. - Election of officers
At the beginning of its twenty-ninth session, the Committee elected a Chairperson, three Vice-Chairpersons and a Rapporteur to serve for the next two years. The position of the Chairperson and that of one of the Vice-Chairpersons fell vacant at the end of 2007 following the departure of Rudolf Christen (Chairperson — Switzerland) and Estevao Umba Alberto (Vice-Chairperson — Angola) from their posts in New York. At the beginning of its thirtieth session, the Committee will elect a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson to replace them for the remainder of the term. - Adoption of the agenda and programme of work
The provisional agenda has been prepared on the basis of consultations among the members of the Bureau of the Committee on Information. - Statement by the Chairman
The Chairman will address the Committee at its opening meeting. - Admission of new members
The Committee will consider requests for membership in the Committee on Information. - Statement by the Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information
The Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information will address the Committee at its opening meeting to provide an update on the activities of the Department and report on the implementation of the recommendations contained in General Assembly resolutions 61/121 A and B of 14 December 2006.

- Consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee to the General Assembly at its sixty-third session
1. ^ 3 May 2008: commemoration of World Press Freedom Day. The General Assembly, by its
decision 48/432 of 20 December 1993, declared 3 May World Press Freedom Day. The
Department of Public Information will hold a panel discussion on 1 May to commemorate this
event. This is not considered to be an official meeting of the Committee on Information.
