SECURITY COUNCIL
Election of five non-permanent members for 2005-2006 were
elected on 15 October by the General Assembly. They are:
Argentina, Denmark, Greece, Japan and the United
Republic of Tanzania. MORE

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL
On 28 October 2004, the General Assembly elected 16 new
members to the Economic and Social Council, for terms beginning
on 1 January 2005.
The
newly elected members of the Council are: Australia,
Brazil, Chad, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark,
Guinea, Iceland, India, Lithuania, Mexico, Pakistan, Russian
Federation, Thailand, South Africa and United Kingdom.
The Assembly deferred the election of two new members when
a 2nd round of voting failed to produce a candidate receiving
the necessary two-thirds majority. MORE

29 October 2004, the General Assembly held two rounds of
voting to complete the 2005 roster of the Economic and Social
Council, with the election of Albania and
Costa Rica for three-year terms beginning
on 1 January 2005. MORE
