Appointment
of members of the Committee on Contributions
B) At its 99th plenary meeting, on 22 May 2002, the General
Assembly, on the recommendation of the Fifth Committee, appointed
Mr. Kenshiro Akimoto as a member of the Committee on Contributions
for a term of office beginning on 22 May 2002 and ending on 31
December 2003 as a result of the resignation of Mr. Kazuo Watanabe.

At its 100th plenary meeting, on 6 June 2002, the General Assembly
appointed Mr. Michel Tilemans as a member of the Committee on
Contributions for the unexpired portion of a term of office beginning
on 6 June 2002 and ending on 31 December 2002 as a result of the

Appointment
of members of the Joint Inspection Unit (A/56/107)
On 10 December 2001, the General Assembly selected five countries
to submit candidates for appointment to the Joint
Inspection Unit (JIU) for a five-year term starting 1 January
2003. They were China, Cuba, Russian Federation, United
Republic of Tanzania and the United States.
At its 98th plenary meeting, on 1 May 2002, the General Assembly,
pursuant to article 3, paragraph 2, of the statute of the Joint
Inspection Unit, contained in the annex to Assembly resolution
31/192 of 22 December 1976, and on the recommendation of the President,
appointed. Mr. Even Francisco Fontaine Ortiz (Cuba), Mr. Tang
Guangting (China), Mr. Victor Vislykh (Russian Federation), Ms.
Deborah Wynes (United States of America) and Mr. Muhammad Yussuf
(United Republic of Tanzania) as members of the Joint Inspection
Unit for a five-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2003
and expiring on 31 December 2007. (A/57/107)

of twenty-nine members of the Governing Council of the United
Nations Environment Programme
On 22 October 2001, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Belgium, Canada,
Chad, China, the Congo, Cuba, the Czech Republic, France, Germany,
Greece, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Myanmar, Namibia, Nicaragua,
Nigeria, the Republic of Korea, Romania, the Russian Federation,
the Sudan, Switzerland, the Syrian Arab Republic, the United States
of America, Uruguay, Zambia and Zimbabwe were declared elected
members of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment
Programme for a four-year term of office beginning on 1 January
2002.

On 22 October 2001, China, Ethiopia, Japan, Nigeria, the Republic
of Korea, Tunisia and Uruguay were declared elected members of
the Committee for Programme and Coordination for a three-year
term of office beginning on 1 January 2002.

On 22 October
2001, the General Assembly took note of the appointment by the
President of Austria, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Jordan, Nepal, Tunisia
and the United States as members of the Committee on Conferences
for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2002.

On 7 November 2001, in two rounds of secret balloting, the
General Assembly elected 34 members of the International Law Commission
