This morning, the President delivered an opening statement in the high-level plenary discussion of globalization issues. It is coming out as a press release in Spanish and later today also in English. There are 46 delegations inscribed to address the Assembly and the debate is scheduled to be concluded this afternoon. You may note that there is a seven-minute limit to the length of statements.



This afternoon, the first informal panel, dealing with the economic impact of globalization will take place in conference room 2 from 2 to 4. The second informal panel will be held tomorrow morning, on the theme of social impact of globalization , from 9 to 11. In addition, two ministerial round tables will be held tomorrow, dealing with social and economic impact of globalization : national responses; and international responses, respectively (11-1 and 3-5).



The closing meeting of the high-level dialogue is tomorrow afternoon at 5 PM and the President is expected to summarize the discussion. His concluding remarks will be issued as a GA document.



The list of speakers for the general debate has been updated (no.5) and it is now available.



Also, the main committees have been holding meetings since yesterday to elect their officers and organize the work. The bureaus of the second and the third committee are complete, the first and the special political committee are meeting today to elect officers and organize their work, and the fifth and sixth committees have still not completed the election of officers. (Sixth Committee -- working group on terrorism -- meets 28 September). Will issue an informal information note tomorrow.



The President has asked me to inform you that on Monday, 28 September at 11.00 a.m. he will address the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, in Washington on the issue of new challenges before the United Nations. You are all invited to attend.
