This morning the President took part in the Memorial Service for the staff members of organizations of the United Nations system and associates who died in the crash of Swissair 111. From there, he proceded to the first meeting of the General Committee, which is still in progress. The General Committee has already ageed on the schedule for the first part of the 53rd session, which should recess on Friday, 11 December. As we speak, the President is going through the provisional agenda for the session, which is contained in document A/BUR/53/1 and Add.1. As I had to leave for the briefing, the General Committee began consideration of item 166, for which some 50 speakers were inscribed on the list. If the General Committee concludes its work today, the next plenary meeting will be held on Tuesday afternoon, to adopt its recommendations.
