The Fifth Committee is meeting this afternoon to conclude its work at the main part of the fifty-third session. It is scheduled to take action on all outstanding draft resolutions before it, including programme budget implications of the draft resolution L.66 on the situation in Afghanistan; United Nations common system; financing of the international tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda; several aspects of the Review of the efficiency of the administrative and financial functioning of the United Nations, including the budget outline for the next biennium; several aspects of the budget for the current biennium; as well as its biennial programme of work.

Tomorrow morning, the plenary will meet for its concluding meeting at the main part of the session. It will take up the reports of the Fifth Committee; the report of the Credentials Committee, as well as the issue of strengthening of the United Nations system. There is a draft resolution under this item --A/53/L.68 -- sponsored by Canada -- it regards the interaction of NGOs in the activities of the United Nations system. The President is also expected to make a closing statement, summarizing the work accomplished at the session so far.
