No plenary meetings are scheduled for today. Tomorrow morning, the plenary will first take up the first report of the Credentials Committee (A/53/556), and proceed to consider the report of the Economic and Social Council and the draft resolution on this matter. It will also discuss item 31 -- Culture of peace. There are 12 speakers inscribed so far on this matter and a draft resolution is contained in document A/53/L.25.
The First Committee will meet this afternoon and resume taking action on draft resolutions before it. The Special Political and Decolonization Committee began this morning the general debate on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Middle East. The Third Committee is continuing the whole day the consideration of human rights questions. The Fifth Committee is holding informal consultations this morning on the scale of assessments and after the formal meeting this afternoon it will hold informal consultations on the pattern of conferences. This afternoon, the Fifth Committee will begin the general discussion of the human resources management. The Sixth Committee will consider this afternoon the Convention on jurisdictional immunities of States and their property (item 148).
Tomorrow morning, under the auspices of the Second Committee, there will be a panel discussion on "Is there a third way: States and markets in socio-economic development". The panellists will be Prof. Antony Giddens, Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science, intellectual architect of the "Third Way"; Jacques Baudot, member of the Copenhagen Seminars on Social Progress; Prof. Linda Kim, Professor of Economics at the School of Business at Michigan University; and Kwame Pianim, Chief Executive Officer of the New Word Investment Ltd. of Ghana. The panel will meet in the Trusteeship Council Chamber from 11:30 to 1:00 pm.
