On Thursday, 8 October 1998, the General Assembly elected Argentina, Canada, Malaysia, Namibia and the Netherlands members of the Security Council for a two-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1999.
 
 
 

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL
 
On Thursday, 12 November 1998, the General Assembly elected Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Guinea-Bissau, Honduras, Indonesia, Morocco, Norway, Rwanda, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, the Syrian Arab Republic, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Venezuela members of the Economic and Social Council for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1999.
