Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
On Wednesday, 26 November 1997, the General Assembly elected the following twenty-nine members of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environmental Programme for a four-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, China, Comoros, Cuba, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malawi, Nigeria, Norway, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, United States, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.
Committee for Programme and Coordination (CPC)
On Wednesday, 22 October 1997, the General Assembly, on the basis of the nomination by the Economic and Social Council, elected the Bahamas, France, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Uganda, the United States and Zambia members of the Committee for Programme and Coordination for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998.
On Thursday, 18 December 1997, the General Assembly, on the basis of the nomination by the Economic and Social Council, elected Italy a member of the Committee for Programme and Coordination for a term of office beginning on 18 December 1997 and expiring on 31 December 1999.
United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL)
On Monday, 24 November 1997, the General Assembly elected the following nineteen members of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law for a six-year term of office beginning on 1 June 1998: Argentina and Uruguay, Austria, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Fiji, Honduras, Hungary, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Italy, Kenya, Lithuania, Paraguay, Romania, Spain, Sudan, Thailand, Uganda and United States. Argentina and Uruguay were elected to alternate on an annual basis, starting with Argentina on 1 June 1998.
Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme
On Wednesday, 3 December 1997, the General Assembly, on the proposal of the Secretary-General, elected Mr. Klaus Topfer (Germany) Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme for a four-year term of office beginning on 1 February 1998.

Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ)
On Thursday, 20 November 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following persons members of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Mr. Ion BARAC (Romania), Mr. Hasan JAWARNEH (Jordan), Mr. Mahamane Amadou MAIGA (Mali), Mr. E. Besley MAYCOCK (Barbados) and Mr. C. S. M. MSELLE (United Republic of Tanzania).
Committee on Contributions
On Thursday, 20 November 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following persons members of the Committee on Contributions for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Mr. Uldis BLUKIS (Latvia), Mr. David ETUKET (Uganda), Mr. Ihor V. HUMENNY (Ukraine), Mr. David LEIS (United States), Mr. Prakash SHAH (India) and Mr. Kasuo WATANABE (Japan).
Board of Auditors
On Thursday, 20 November 1997, the General Assembly appointed the Comptroller and Auditor-General of the United Kingdom as a member of the Board of Auditors for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 July 1998.
Investments Committee
On Thursday, 20 November 1997, the General Assembly confirmed the appointment by the Secretary-General of the following persons as members of the Investments Committee for a three-year term of office beginning 1 January 1998: Mr. Ahmad ABULLATIF (Saudi Arabia), Mr. Fernando CHICO PARDO (Mexico) and Mr. J. Y. PILLAY(Singapore).
International Civil Service Commission (ICSC)
On Thursday, 20 November 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following persons as members of the International Civil Service Commission for a four-year term of office beginning 1 January 1998: Mr. Mario BETTATI (France), Mr. Joao AUGUSTO DE MEDICIS (Brazil), Ms. Lucretia MYERS (United States), Mr. Alexis STEPHANOU (Greece) and Mr. Ku TASHIRO (Japan).
United Nations Staff Pension Committee
On Thursday, 20 November 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following persons as members of the United Nations Staff Pension Committee for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Mr. Tadanori INOMATA (Japan), Mr. Gerhard KUNTZLE (GERMANY), Mr. Vladimir V. KUTZNETSOV (Russian Federation), Mr. Philip Richard Okanda OWADE (Kenya), Mr. Carlos Dante RIVA (Argentina) and Ms. Susan SHEARHOUSE (United States).
On Tuesday, 31 March 1998, the General Assembly appointed Mr. Nester ODAGA-JALOMAYO (Uganda) as a member of the United Nations Staff Pension Committee for a term office beginning on 31 March 1998 and ending on 31 December 2000.
Consultative Committee on the United Nations Development Fund for Women
On Monday, 15 December 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following Member States as members of the Consultative Committee on the United Nations Development Fund for Women for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Austria, Bahamas, Romania, Thailand and Uganda.
Committee on Conferences
On Monday, 15 December 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following Member States as members of the Committee on Conferences for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Argentina, Bahamas, Belgium, Benin, Georgia, Islamic Republic of Iran and Lesotho.
United Nations Administrative Tribunal
On Thursday, 18 December 1997, the General Assembly appointed the following persons as members of the United Nations Administrative Tribunal for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1998: Mr. Chittharanjan Felix AMERASINGHE (Sri Lanka), Mr. Victor Yenyi OLUNGU (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Mr. Hubert THIERRY (France).
On Tuesday, 31 March 1998, the General Assembly appointed Mr. Kevin HAUGH (Ireland) as a member of the United Nations Administrative Tribunal for a term of office beginning on 31 March 1998 and ending on 31 December 1998.
Joint Inspection Unit
On Monday, 23 March 1998, the General Assembly appointed Mr. Armando Duque Gonzalez (Colombia) as a member of the Joint Inspection Unit for a five-year term of office beginning on 1 January 1999 and expiring on 31 December 2003.
