    1) Working definition

 

Common understanding, among WG members, of the meaning of FLW in the context of sustainable food systems

Definition acceptable to all WG members and covering the different facets of the FLW issue

Documents defining FLW operational implications of pursuing the vision of zero FLW; and the human, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable food systems

    1. Organise consultations and meetings to develop definitions and achieve consensus on FLW, and establish the scope and system boundaries for their application

    2. Publish documents, information materials, newsletters, flyers, brochures and press releases on the definitions

    3. Disseminate information in hardcopy and electronically through WG agency sites and other platforms.

    2) Metrics to be used by all in WG when monitoring progress in relation to reducing FLW, and means for developing and applying these metrics;

Approaches to measuring FLW approved by all members of the WG, as a way of monitoring progress of work in reducing FLW

Guidelines, protocols and guidance on measuring systems and methodologies

    1. Develop and also facilitate and support the development of tools, methodologies and indicators for assessment of the causes, impact and magnitude of FLW

  • Commission studies by experts

  • Hold stakeholder meeting to present findings

      3) Policy measures that create an enabling environment for reducing FLW, within the context of the overall ZHC vision, and approaches for implementation that can be taken to scalep

Clarification on policy recommendations and their contribution to reducing FLW

Reports on solutions to reduce FLW, with particular reference to the policy dimensions

    1. Expert studies to identify policy dimensions for reducing FLW in food supply chains

    2. Pilot and validate methodologies on supporting policy formulation

    3. Stakeholder meetings to discuss policy recommendations and best practice sharing

    4. Preparation of policy briefs

 

    4) Advice to and collaboration with private sector and others who seek to support implementation of the vision

 

Increased awareness by private sector and integration of FLW reduction approaches in their operations

Better understanding of private sector role in reducing FLW, including in partnership with other stakeholders

Reports on partnerships with the private sector for reducing FLW and corporate reporting on food loss and waste

 

    1. Stakeholder workshops to identify private sector involvement in FLW reduction

    2. Organize awareness raising and advocacy events to proactively engage the private sector and facilitate best practice sharing.

    3. Involvement in practical piloting of methodologies and implementation of projects on FLW

 

    5) Relevant messages for farmer organizations, civil society, consumer groups, NGOs, and other stakeholder who wish to participate in implementation.

Increased awareness on FLW and understanding of implications of stakeholder activities in FLW reduction and sustainable food systems

Materials, meetings and campaigns for awareness raising, information dissemination and advocacy

    1. Prepare information, awareness raising and advocacy materials, newsletters, flyers and brochures in hardcopy and electronic form

    2. Disseminate information, including by hardcopies and electronically through WG and partner offices and web-sites

    3. Organise exhibitions and special projects such as photo series or competitions targeting specific target groups such as youth, students, etc.

    4. Attend and participate in events organized world-wide to present programme findings through speeches, presentations and interviews

    5. Establish and facilitate Communities of Practice (CoP) and multi-stakeholder platforms FLW
