Welcome to the Language Proficiency Examinations
The Language Proficiency Examinations are used by the United Nations to test the written and spoken knowledge of staff members in the six official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
Adequate knowledge in one of these official languages will be demonstrated upon the staff member's successfully passing the United Nations Language Proficiency Examination (LPE) in that language.
The LPE consists of a written part and an oral part, which are to be taken at the same session (i.e. the same year).
A minimum score of 65 percent in both parts is required for a passing grade.
The LPE are held annually. For more information, please read the 2009 LPE Notice.
