INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION (ILO)
A major activity concerning youth
is the Action Programme on Youth Unemployment. Coordinated by the Employment
and Labour Market Policies Branch, the Action Programme involves youth
employment reviews carried out in a number of countries throughout the
world. On the basis of these reviews, ILO is preparing a comparative report
on the factors influencing the success and failure of different youth employment
programmes and a policy manual laying out the pros and cons of different
policy options. In addition, ILO has long had a number of conventions and
recommendations regulating the employment and labour market conditions
of young people, going back to the Minimum Age (Industry) Convention (No.
5) of 1919.
