  • Moscow, Russia (March 5th, 2009)
    In conjuction with the UN Country Team, a special event to celebrate the observance will be organized. Among the key note speakers will be NGO representatives dealing with the issues of violence against women, as well as UNFPA Representative in the RF. The informal part of the soiree will be opening of the exhibition by a well-known Russian artist Igor Sapunkov, presenting women’s images.

  • Gaborone, Botswana (March 7th, 2009)
    UN in Botswana in collaboration with the Government of Botswana, through the Women’s Affairs Department will commemorate IWD.

  • Windhoek, Namibia (March 7th, 2009)
    "Open Market Day": IWD in Namibia will be observed under the theme ‘sharing responsibilities.’ UNIC Windhoek together with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare will concentrate on assisting women from all walks of life, especially those from rural areas to showcase their products at an open market. The Open Market day initiative will emphasize women’s recognition as primary producer of food, the pillar of her family and a champion of sustainable development. And most importantly the organizers hope to increase business of rural women entrepreneurs.
