Nabeela Abdulla Al-Mulla
Ambassador Al-Mulla became the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations in early 2004, where she had been a member of the Mission with many different responsibilities from 1977 to 1994.
Ambassador Al-Mulla is currently one out of 18 women ambassadors to the United Nations in New York.
Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Al-Mulla was ambassador to Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia as well as her country’s Resident Representative to the United Nations Office at Vienna and other UN organizations based in Vienna. Between 2002 and 2003, she was the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), prior to which she had served as Governor on the same Board.
From 1996 to 1999 she served as Ambassador to South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius and Botswana, with residency in South Africa. In 1994 and 1995, Ms. Al-Mulla was Ambassador to Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius and Botswana, with residency in Harare. In the early 1990s, she represented her country in multilateral talks on arms control and regional security in the Middle East and participated in meetings on Kuwaiti prisoners of war and detainees.
Ms. Al-Mulla holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies and a Master of Arts in International Relations.
