ACTIVITIES AT UN HEADQUARTERS IN NEW YORK:
  • Peace Bell Ceremony


  • The Secretary-General will ring the Peace Bell at UN Headquarters on the International Day of Peace. Messengers of Peace and other dignitaries will be in attendance.

  • Security Council


  • The Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines will chair the public debate in the Security Council at UN Headquarters on the day before the International Day of Peace on the theme "The Role of Civil Society in Conflict Prevention and the Pacific Settlement of Disputes." The Philippines holds the Presidency of the Security Council for September 2005.

  • Department of Disarmament Affairs


  • The Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty will open on the International Day of Peace at UN Headquarters.

  • Cyberschoolbus


  • The UN Cyberschoolbus will engage young people around the world on the International Day of Peace with a special program at UN Headquarters. Young people from countries affected by violence will participate through video conference. The program closes with a World Peace Flag Ceremony sending positive prayers to all countries.
