Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee
for the Third United Nations Conference
on the Least Developed Countries
New York, 24-28 July 2000
Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 54/235 of 24 February 2000, the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Third United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries will meet from 24 to 28 July 2000. The session will open at United Nations Headquarters in New York at 10 a.m. on Monday, 24 July 2000.
The Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee is expected to consider the following matters:
- Review of progress in the preparatory process of the Conference;
- Substantive preparation for the Conference;
- Assessment of progress in the implementation of the Programme of Action during the 1990s at the country level;
- Provisional agenda and organization of work for the Third United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
A detailed provisional agenda will be circulated in a follow-up communication. Further information will be communicated to all governments of least developed countries regarding travel expenses for two representatives from each least developed country.
States wishing to attend the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee are requested to submit by 30 June 2000 to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Third United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries the credentials of their representatives and the names of their alternate representatives and advisers. Other participants (i.e. United Nations bodies and programmes, specialized agencies and intergovernmental bodies, as well as non-governmental organizations in the General Category and those in the Special Category which wish to participate as observers) are requested to inform the Secretary-General of the Conference by the same date of the names of their representatives.
