| 27 & 28 November | Voluntary HIV Counseling and Confidential Testing (VCCT) This service is aimed at providing UN staff, their partners and families the opportunity to learn their HIV status. It is also intended to promote safer behaviour. VCCT will be provided free of charge by GMHC at the Labouisse Hall, UNICEF House, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. | 26 November - 7 December | UN+ Exhibit The group of UN staff living with HIV, UN+, seeks to raise HIV awareness and sensitivity through a photo exhibit that will also feature statements from relevant policy documents. The 2008 UN+ calendar will be launched during a reception on 28 November, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The exhibit and reception will be held in the Staff Lobby of the Secretariat. | 29 November | Town Hall Meeting on Peacekeeping and HIV The meeting will be preceded by a 20-minute film, Hidden Risk, which was made for - and by - uniformed peacekeepers to raise HIV awareness in peacekeeping missions. It sheds light on particular circumstances that put peacekeeping personnel at particular risk for contracting and/or transmitting HIV. A lively debate is expected to follow around HIV issues as they relate to peacekeeping personnel. The event will be held at the Dag Hammarskjöld Auditorium from 9:15 am. | 29 November | Informal Briefing on HIV-related Stigma and Discrimination An in-depth discussion on HIV-related stigma and discrimination as obstacles to the promotion of universal access to prevention, treatment and care will be organized at the Dag Hammarskjöld Auditorium from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. | 30 November | Breakfast with Mayor Bloomberg Held annually, this breakfast brings together AIDS advocates and service providers in New York. The event offers an opportunity to renew commitment to the response to AIDS. This event is by invitation only. Contact: Newton Kanhema (kanhema@un.org) |
| 30 November | Evening of Reflection, Celebration and Remembrance Together, the United Nations and New York communities will mobilize leadership in the response to AIDS in an evening of reflection, celebration, and remembrance. Participants will include NYC community members, UN officials and staff, representatives of Missions and civil society organizations, and partners in the city government. Co-sponsors of the event include the Hunger Project, the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC), the World Council of Churches and the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC). | 4 & 6 December | HIV Orientation Sessions UN staff participating in these sessions will be enabled to make informed decisions and also understand the HIV workplace policies and programme of the UN. The session on 4 December will be held at Room 470 of DC1, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. | 6 December | Informal Briefing on Gender and AIDS As part of efforts to connect representatives of Member States in New York to relevant developments and challenges at regional and country levels, an informal briefing will be held to discuss the sensitive issue of gender and AIDS. The panel of speakers will represent different regions and diverse points of view (e.g. from governments, civil society, academia, and the UN).
